Free Linux Ubuntu CDs

The Launchpad is a web portal for open source developers that includes easy web based translation and bug management. The Launchpad offers a service called ShipIt. ShipIt lets you order Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) CDs that will be posted to you free of charge.

Ubuntu is a free Debian derived complete Linux-based operating system, available with both community and professional support. It is developed by a large community and we invite you to participate too!

Ubuntu CDs are made specifically for various types of computers.

  • The PC Edition will run on almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and computers that can also run Microsoft Windows. Choose this if you are unsure.
  • The 64-bit PC Edition will run on computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon).
  • The Mac Edition will run on Apple Macintosh G3, G4, and G5 computers including iBooks and PowerBooks.

The registration takes 2 minutes and the CD is shipped to you in 2 weeks maximum. Ubuntu however is not a full fledged system and has a quite a few constrains. One of the popular one being you can’t login as ROOT. But what actually puts Ubuntu in the front seat is its user friendly environment.
