Orkut warns

The Scrapbook’s in Orkut now have a warning flashed over the top. This is a step taken by Orkut to reduce spam as well as virus attacks on users of Orkut. The warning reads:

Warning: Please be careful when clicking on unfamiliar links in scraps or other parts of this site that navigate away from orkut.com.

Apart from this I also noticed at certain places Orkut removed malicious looking links out of the scrapbooks. Now this certainly reduces the security concerns of orkut. But then I feel, its a step by google to avoid any more lawsuits. The warning basically tells the users, its not googles fault if their computers crashed or they got abused by an external link in a person’s scrap book.

Update:

Pallab informs us that the warning is because of a new type of Malware which is targetting users inside the Orkut.com community, stealing their login details to online banking sites, dumping them into a Botnet and trying to spread automatically via their “scrapbooks”. Thanx Pallab

Nope. You are mistaken. It was added a day after a bot exploiting orkut was discovered.

A (very rough!) translation: “As Orkut limits the amount of photos that can be published in my account, I created a slideshow with some photos of mine, please click to see!”
