Gmail Inbox – New interface

The new interface of Gmail is kinda sleek I would say. The gtalk integration had to pip in and the message box is now fixed length, even though the blue bar with the rss snippets is flexible width. A sleek menu bar with functions is also a nice touch to the whole compose mail funda :)

Click on screen shot to enlarge it. (Oh! The message is of a hoaxed job offer from Raymond India. Don’t pay attention to it :P )

(Oh! The message is of a hoaxed job offer from Raymond India. Notice how the from address reads job@raymonindia.com and the reply to address reads xxx@yahoo.com. This is as good as social engineering. Watch out folks! )

Ok here is what you can do with the new interface and updates:

  • Now, if someone sends a reply while you’re in the middle of reading a conversation (or replying to it), you’ll get a notification that a new message has arrived. Click “update conversation” to see what you’ve missed.
  • When viewing a conversation, use the new “Forward all” link on the right if you want to forward the entire conversation instead of just one message.
  • Chatting in Gmail just keeps getting better. Now, if you’re chatting with a friend who goes offline, your friend will be able to see whatever you were typing the next time he or she goes online.
