How To Speed Up iPod

Apple appears to have upped the processing speed of the iPod in order to help it go after the hard-disk market. Make your ipod work as fast as the first day you bought it by following  this 2 step process.

iPod uses the file system technique to allocate memory for the songs and other things, which is pretty much similar to other disks. However, as time goes, the iPod hard-disk gets fragmented a lot of times which leads to a slower iPod.

The following article describes how to access the files on an iPod faster by defragmenting it. Defragmenting a hard-disk is a process locating the noncontiguous fragments of data into which a computer file may be divided as it is stored on a hard disk, and rearranging the fragments and restoring them into fewer fragments or into the whole file. Defragmentation reduces data access time and allows storage to be used more efficiently.

Before you start the defragmentation, you need to ensure that your iPod is enabled for Disk Usage and is being shown as a removable Disk.

In order to defragment your iPod, follow these steps:

  • Right click on the iPod removable disk, from the menu Select Properties.

Apple iPod defragment

  • Select Tools-> Defragment Now. This would start the Defragment program

Cheers!
