Many of my friends still ask me why do I love Wordpress so much? For me the answer is pretty simple: flexibility and adaptability. Wordpress is free source with all the configuration options available to do just about anything. The adaptability that it has over the Blogger is that it can be installed and hosted in any domain in 3 simple steps. And trust me, installing a Wordpress Blog is simpler than you think.
Following are the three easy steps for setting your own Wordpress Blog:
1. Domain Name Registration. The hardest task of the 3 step is to decide a name for you blog. If you already have a Company or a Brand that you plan to go for, then it is simple for you(assuming that the domain name is available). The first preference is generally given to .com, but in cases where it is not available then .net or .org would do. There are some companies that get all the three domains in order to park them. These are few points that you need to know before you choose a name for you blog: – The domain name should not be hard to spell. – Do not use more than 3 words in the domain name. I personally like Godaddy and Bluehost when I register my domain names.
2. Blog Hosting. There are a lot of hosting options on the internet and I would recommend you to do little research before you choose the hosting plan. The first hosting plan that I used was a nightmare(I shall not mention the name, though). That plan had costed me dear with not much of features and customer support. Since then I have been using Bluehost, which provides me with good features at affordable rates and real good customer support(the round-about times has been a max of 5 hours). Some of my friends have also been using Hostgator, ixwebhosting and Lunarpages and they find that good. I have had some interactions with Hostgator on behalf of my friend and they seems pretty responsive.
3. Wordpress Installation. This might seem as a hard step for most of them, but if you just follow the steps one by one, you would install Wordpress in no time. Now a days, most of the hosting company provide you with SimpleScripts, which is a 2 click process to install Wordpress into your domain name. SimpleScripts are provided by all the companies that have C-Panel login. If you are using Bluehost or Hostgator or any other C-Panel supported hosting company then its just a 2 click process to install it. If your hosting company doesn’t support, then you need to install Wordpress using an FTP Client for which you can watch the video below.
