Every equipment in a computer network has its own unique MAC address, allowing the administrator to identify it across the network. Mac address are generally used by the cable providers to block the access to specific machines. Even though you might have proper login authorization details, you might not be able to access the internet, mainly because of the incorrect MAC address sent by your machine.
MacShift is a freeware utility software for Windows that allows you to change your MAC address to your choice. To get started with the change, download it first.
In order to use this software, you need to know the name of the connection that you would want to change. For example, the default name for a wireless network adapter is “Wireless Network Connection”.
Syntax: macshift [options] [mac-address]
Where the ‘Options’ are:
Switch Description
-i[adapter name] The adapter name from the Network connections.
-r Uses a random MAC address. This is the default.
-d Restores the original MAC address.
-help Shows this screen.
This software runs in the command prompt(Start->Run, type ‘cmd’). Navigate to the directory you stored the software folder(store the software folder in C drive for convenience). You can now invoke macshift however you want.
