Who would have ever imagined, a simple program for micro-blogging would become the next big thing in the world of Internet communication. In a time when people want to know everything about everyone at every instant of the day, why not create something that will allow everyone to update their status from anywhere and anytime? I must admit, I missed the train on Orkut, jumped on to facebook just because, and now I am on Twitter and seem to be an addict.
For those that do not know, twitter is a micro-blogging service that can be updated from anywhere – a messenger, a website, an email client, a cell phone, literally from anywhere. There was once a time, believe it or not, when your friend could not know what you were doing every minute of every day. There was no Twitter, no Facebook, no blogging, I wonder how those people survived?
It seems weird to me that twitter has taken off to the level that it has, on one hand I can understand how it has its attraction to high school kids and college party goers, however it seems to have sky rocketed into the main stream with business CEO’s and celebrities and music artists using it every day. A few weeks ago Skittles put out a tweet about their website and they had over 1000% more visitors that week to their website, which had me thinking, twitter is possibly one of the best marketing tools available.
Twitter can be, if used correctly, one of the best Internet Marketing tools available today, simply because it has a huge crowd following and it is free. With its many plug-ins and codes available, it is easy to place your twitter status on your website, or tweet on a blog you just found, it is not hard to realize the potential here. With one tweet you can flood the market with a link, as long as you have the correct following to do so!
Now, marketing on twitter is not the easiest thing to do, as it will take time to play the game and get people to follow you. The prime thing to do is create a large following on twitter, as well as a decent list of tweeters you follow. We need to have as many people to see the tweets as possible. The more the followers you have the better, since they will have the upper hand knowing what is going on.
Another important aspect of marketing with twitter is the option to allow your blog posts to be shared via twitter, so any time anyone wants to tweet a post, they click the link and it becomes there status. This is a great tool because, if done effectively, your link can spread through the networks of twitter accounts all over the world.
Now I know it is true that people use twitter to check in on Ashton Kutcher, Lil Wayne, and Shaq, but it is also one of the best marketing systems that can be put into place on the internet. Why not let it work for you?
