You hear success stories all the time about individuals earning passive income online. Eventually you learn that there are several ways to earning money online, pay-per-click sites, Google Adsense and affiliate marketing, etc.
Affiliate marketing is being rewarded monetarily for having introduced potential customers to a particular product or service. It is much the same with getting a referral fee from the owner of a product or service which earned money from your contacts. In effect, the income is in the nature of a commission. You promote this product or service as your own even though it is owned by another merchant. There are many ways with which to promote an affiliate’s product or service. You may use email marketing technique, feature the product or service in your website or indirectly publishing review of the product or service in your blog.
There are 2 types of affiliate marketing:
- Pay-Per-Sale
- In this type, your commission is earned for every sale generated from your referral.
- Pay-Per-Lead
- In this case, whether or not your referral makes a sale, the traffic you’ve forwarded to the merchant’s website is enough for you to earn a commission.
Either way, you have introduced another merchant’s product to your readership. Your leads may earn the merchant-owner money from the traffic sent to their website. In order to increase your chances for success in affiliate marketing, you should choose products or services within your niche. If your blog is about food and recipes, you will have a hard time promoting car air-conditioning parts on your website much less selling it. In order to protect your loyal readership and customers, you should also take the time to determine ethical policy of the merchant with respect to disclosing private information or research the merchant’s reputation. You should try to select products and service provider who are of high quality. It will also help if the product has a large demand. In pay-per-lead, when your referral needs to input certain information, the form should be as simple as possible so as not to deter potential visitor from actually taking advantage of any freebies, if any.
All these things will help you either individually or you utilized all of them at once to maximize income. It is important to remember, at this point, that you should have realistic expectations with respect to passive income. Creating a website will not automatically get you loyal readers or followers overnight. But if you do have valuable content, you just might earn considerable money online.
