In the 5th article of Blogging Tutorial, I have already explained the advantages of blogging service such as Blogger or WordPress. These tutorials is all about money making through internet by blogging. Read all these articles so that you can understand how to earn money by blogging. Stay updated with this blog and do not miss anything. In this article, I would like to discuss about getting a domain, setting it and making it functional.
Domain name
Even though you can use a sub-domain, it is better to use a domain. Get a paid domain name and not the domains that end with .tk, .nr, .cc etc. While choosing a domain, you have to take care of certain things to select a good domain name. After decided to purchase the domain you are interested in, then you have to check its availability.
If you are a WordPress user, you will get the instructions on the wordpress website. You can also set a domain with the blog. You have to buy hosting space for your blog, if you are using wordpress.org. Never waste your time as a blogger if the domain is available and purchase it immediately. Domains such as .org, .com and .net are available for only $6.99 to $10 per year. There are .info domains are also available for a limited time for $0.99. Payment is accepted through Paypal and MasterCard. You can buy your domain from BlueHost or 1&1 because they provide a good service. Now I am going to tell you how to set up a domain along with your blog.
Your account is created at 1&1 after purchasing a domain at 1&1. Now you can login to your account and go to the Control Panel and click on the domains. If you are interested to have a web address with www, you have to click on New and then on the Sub-domain. After clicking on the Sub-domain, enter www in the space provided for the sub-domain and click OK. Now the weblink with a www before it has been created. Now you are at the page that shows the domains and sub-domains. You have to check the box near to the sub-domain created by you and click on DNS settings. Then click on Edit DNS settings from the drop-down menu. After opening the DNS settings of the sub-domain, there you can see two radio buttons. Select one of the radio buttons which says CNAME and go to the CNAME settings. In the Alias, enter ghs.google.com and click ok.
Now the domain is done and come back to Blogger. Go to the settings of your blog and go to Publishing and Select Custom Domain. Then click on the advanced settings and enter the sub-domain created in to the text box. In order to get activated allow it up to 24 hours. You will have the root directory for all your pages and mainly for your blog as this custom sub-domain. These instructions are valid only for 1and1. If you are purchasing a domain name from some where else, then the procedures will be different.
It is better to get a domain as it makes your blog stand out from the crowd. The custom domain of your blog shows the visitor that your blog worth something and your blog are not as same as that of others. If you want visitors to come again and again to your blog, then getting a domain for your blog is necessary.
P.S. If you have any queries regarding wordpress hosting or buying and configuring domain in Bluehost or 1&1, you can send me a comment with your email id in it and I’ll be more than happy to help.
