One of my favorite restful activities is reading a good book. Ever since I started earning money, a small portion of what I earned goes to enhancing my personal library. It’s also a good thing that I am not the only one in the family who reads. When I become a parent, my spending habits have changed and so I find I no longer buy as much books as I used to. That does not mean though that reading took a back seat. Here are 6 tips which I will share for your reading pleasure, which has given me access to cheap books:
1. E-books
Electronic books or books in their digitized form are way much cheaper than their printed counterparts primarily because no paper was used and there’s no shipping and handling involved.
2. Local Library
If you have not been to your local library since you graduated it’s about time that you take time to visit. Libraries now a day have extensive book collections which you can only find in serious book collectors who also own personal libraries. What’s more, you also get to browse the internet, borrow some cds in addition to books. Even if they do charge a certain fee for borrowing certain books or materials, it is still a cheaper alternative to buying your own.
3. Bookcrossing
Book crossing is a concept which spouses the idea to share books you have already used by leaving it anywhere (the wild) for some other book lover to find it. The book contains a bookcrossing number which tells someone that it is a book left in the wild. If you’re serious in finding some books left in the wild, you might want to visit bookcrossing.com and look for titles which are not yet found.
4. Charity/Thrift Stores
Book sales from charity and thrift stores are really very cheap. You will find some good titles in their inventories. These books are in fairly new condition as opposed to those volumes you will find in school library book sales.
5. Second-hand books
Second-hand books are a good alternative when all you are after is the content. Amazon offers a large variety of second-hand books which you will find really useful.
6. Swap books
Not all book lovers are collectors. So many times in the past, some of the books I have read are lent to me by friends and some that I have read are owned by my friends. It is a good idea to swap books every now and then.
