In the previous article, I have explained how to set a domain for your blog. Now you have learned how to obtain a unique name and domain for your blog. In this article, I am going to discuss how to make changes to the blog in order to make it more user-friendly and useful for you. By going through this article, you will come to know how to edit the template of your blog, mainly for blogger.

Go to the ‘Layout’ of your blog, if you are using Blogger Beta. If you are using Old blogger, then go to ‘Template’ of your Blog. First I will discuss about the Old Blogger and then Blogger Beta.

In Old blogger, you can see the page that shows Edit HTML as soon as you open the template of the blog. Most of the people would like to edit the sidebar in a page. You can edit the sidebar by entering between and tags will appear on your sidebar. Make sure to close any other opened tag in the sidebar before closing the sidebar or else you will get errors. Most probably, you would like to enter a link, some HTML script or link list for another website in a sidebar. Place the HTML for the thing you want to add in to the blog on the article’s link given above in the div container of the sidebar. Editing of the style sheet is the easiest way to change the style and color of some object on the blog.

Here I am going discuss how to change the color of the title of the post. First of all, you have to open your blog in a new window. If you have opened it for Internet Explorer, then press the buttons (Alt), (V), (C) one by one and if it is opened for Firefox, then press (Ctrl + U). By pressing these buttons, you can open the HTML source of the blog. Search for the HTML source of the title of any article if you want to change the color of the title. Then search for the tag before the Post Title that has the style for the Post Title. Here the Post-title is the style name and you have to search for the source for post-title. If the blog displays the Post title as a ling, then you will have to edit the style. You can find three different properties that are visited link, normal link and hover link and changing color of each of these will provide interactivity for the reader. The ‘#main” before every style indicates that the style is only applicable in the div container named main. Here you can edit the color of the Post title link. Then you can make similar changes to the Blog template because the style sheet is similar in both the cases. Save these changes and your job is finished. You can change the height, font-size, color etc of any other thing of the template in a similar manner.

Editing template is complicated only for the Old Blogger but you can add these things by clicking on the Page Elements on the Layout of the Blog for Blogger Beta. By clicking on Fonts and Colors, you can change the colors in Blogger Beta. In Blogger Beta, there is no HTML stuff to handle and because of that it is simple. But some commands are not supported by Blogger Beta and all the editing cannot be done on the Page Elements.
