It isn’t uncommon to have multiple Yahoo Messenger ID’s. Unfortunately, Yahoo Messenger does not let you run multiple Messenger instances. For those of you that use a personal ID and business ID, there is a handy little workaround, which will allow you to do just this. The workaround is simple to use. There is, however, one known issue when running multiple instance – you cannot make voice calls successfully from any of the instance. You will be able to hear what is being said to you, but cannot respond.
The workaround uses a simple script, commonly available on the net, that lets you run several instances of messenger at the same time. Most of these do not let you revert, which means you will never be able to place video calls successfully. By using the scripts provided below, you would be able to run multiple instance and change back to single instance mode in order to place successful video calls.
There are three easy steps:
1. Download the file found here and unzip it.
2. When you wish to run multiple instance of Yahoo Messenger, simply double click “start-ymulti.” When prompted, select yes.
3. When you wish to disallow or stop the multiple instances (undo all of the changes) simply double click “stop_ymulti.” When prompted, select yes.
This work around works very well with Windows XP. Testing has not been completed using Vista.
The scripts work with Yahoo Messenger 9.0 and should work well with all early versions.
