Macbooks can sometimes be a little unreliable and will crash and freeze on you. If you have lots of programs open or the CPU is busy then it will be likely to crash. Here are some instructions on how to restart your mac without having to resort to the power button.
- Restarting your mac can seem like a process that takes an age. Rebooting your computer safely is one way to jump start your mac again. The first step is to be sure that you save your work before starting the restart process.
- Go to the Mac OS X terminal. In order to do this you should go to the finder and then into the applications folder. Double click on the utilities folder and scroll down until you find terminal. You should double click again to open this.
- Once you have double click and opened the terminal you should type the command “sudo reboot”. Then press return. This will ask you for a password which you should enter and press the return key. Once this is done your computer should reboot within 5-10 seconds.
Warnings and Tips
- Always save your work. This will prevent you from losing it should you have to reboot.
- To complete these instructions you should have an administrators account.
