Setting a correct price for their advertisements is quite confusing for the beginners. Beginners who are blogging also afraid of quoting high price resulting in the loss of advertising deals whereas less quotes also make them live in pennies. Some of the basic guidelines to calculate advertising prices are as follows:
Size of the banner – The size of the banner should be larger when the price is high. You can price the image banner of 125 x 125 at $30/month and the price of 250 x 250 banners can be $120/month. ]
Image and text ads – The image ads are priced higher than text ads. The pricing difference is because the CTR or click-through ratio of image ads is higher than that of the text ads.
Placement – Above the fold advertisements are priced higher than below the fold advertisements. The price of the advertisements appear in the footer are considerably lower than that of the header of the blog.
Pricing model – The two popular pricing models are CPM model (cost per thousand impressions) and CPA model (cost per action). The preferable and acceptable model to calculate price is the CPM model. A fixed amount is paid for each 1000 page views. Following are some of the ways to calculate the right price for a particular ad in this model:
Check the public ad inventories and see their CPM rate to get the right value of the ad. To view the CPM rate for a particular ad, login to your adsense account and go to advanced reports. To get a clear picture, you have to take at least a month long data as long range data will provide you with more accurate rate. You can decrease or increase the rate by knowing the purchasing power of the advertiser. To calculate the monthly rate, you have to know the page views per month. For example, suppose the rate is $1.50 and the number of page views generated per day is 5000. If the number of page per day is 5000, then number of page views per month will be 15, 0000. Then the price of the ad is 150000/1000 x 1.50 = $225/month.

After creating the list of the advertisers, you can invite them to advertise on your blog. Provide a brief introduction of your blog and the purpose of the blog. Give the phone number and messenger id to speed up the process. You can attach rate card/ media kit to show the various available advertising options on the blog which should contain a detailed pricing of every ad type. For long-term deals, you can quote discounted prices. Another method to get long term deals is to provide read-only access to Google Analytics dashboard for a limited period to verify your claims of traffic. If you are dealing for the first time, then you should be flexible to negotiate the pricing.
