Apple VS The Others

As this week, the hugely debated Apple iPad has been launched, I ask the question, why do apple seem to be so much more popular than the other big companies in terms of MP3/4 players and even computers.

Lets start with the macbook. I got my macbook this christmas, and will never look back. There is a period of time when one must get used to the new interface, and personally, after using windows for most of my life, it took just under a week to get used to this flashy looking design. Not only does the operating system provide ease of use, but it is so much better looking than the rather drab windows, no patch on Mac OSX.

The iPod. THE most popular MP4 player. Not only is this, once again, easy to use, and once again, look fantastic. They last so much longer than the common sony or microsoft music devices. I can’t imagine having any other music player than an iPod. My first iPod was the classic iPod Mini, then I was astounded when I got to watch movies on my iPod classic. But best of all, I have a revolutionary iPod touch which I think my parents would say was the best thing they ever bought me. Searching the internet in the palm of my hand. Amazing.

I think he most important factor that brings customers to apple is the customer services. Let me tell you about something that happened to my sister a few weeks back. Her iPod touch was not connecting to the computer so she was unable to put any new stuff on there. She could charge it, but it wouldn’t connect to either computer, be it mac or PC. We went to Bluewater (a shopping centre near us in kent) and walked into the apple store. We went to somebody, who put us on standby for a one-to-one appointment. Before long, we were being seen, and the technician was looking at her iPod. He tried everything he could, and as he did not see the problem, he just replaced the unit. There and then. And lone behold, it was free of charge and it worked. I think THAT is the reason why people chose apple over other companies, their computers are made by them with no other components in them, so they can take full responsibility for them and their iPods, are easily replaceable. They made it easy for us to like them and made it easy for us to tell our friends about this experience, and therefore, get more and more customers. This is not the only story I have heard about apple’s amazing Customer Service. A fantastic all round service, compared to somewhat lousy service from many other BIG names in the technology industry.
